A novel machine vision-based approach for online wear monitoring of roller chains

Constructions and Design Engineering

Roller chains are common machine elements for transmitting high power. However, they are inevitably subject to wear in the chain joints. As of now, there is very little research about wear monitoring of roller chains. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed that derives the wear state out of the wear-induced load span oscillations via machine vision. Results of validation experiments on differently worn roller chains are presented, showing that the wear level can be estimated succesfully from the camera images.

Host city and venue - Vienna

Vienna (Wien) is the federal capital and largest city of Austria, and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primate city, with a population of about 1.9 million (2.6 million within the metropolitan area, nearly one third of Austria's population), and its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 7th-largest city by population within city limits in the European Union.  Read more...
