Buckling of the multistage hydraulic cylinders

Constructions and Design Engineering

In the paper, the emphasis is placed on the elastic buckling of the system of multistage telescopic hydraulic cylinders under the assumption of well-formed contacts between the individual cylinder stages. In the paper, the recent relevant scientific publications in the field of buckling of THCs are presented and the corresponding solutions are introduced. Starting from the differential equation of buckling of the ideal uniaxial compression element with constant cross section and its basic solution derived by Euler [2], a corresponding theory of buckling is presented. Based on the chosen analytical methods, the critical buckling force of the real test THC is determined. As part of the study, a test rig is constructed and the measurements of buckling force are performed. Finally, the comparison between the measured and calculated results is shown.
