A heuristic approach for operating the marine container drayage using dummy node concept

CO2 occupies over 90% of artificially emitted the Greenhouse Gas. As related to CO2 emitted by road traffic, we focus on “Round use of containers” project which is promoted in Japan. To be concrete, inbound/outbound container movements are combined with empty containers’ movement at the inland depot, in order to reduce the throughput of empty containers in an internal area.
We focus on a vehicle routing for container transport on this project.
We express the change of situation at one customer as two different points: a full container delivery to an empty container supply at a consignee, an empty container demand to a full container pickup at a shipper.
Therefore, we propose the heuristic approach based on Ant Colony Optimization for the vehicle dispatch problem using dummy nodes expressed two situations at one customer.
