Energy consumption and service performance of belt conveyors

To obtain a generalization of this work to various conveying machines, in the present paper the concept is extended to belt conveyors and an index is proposed that measures their overall efficiency by incorporating both energy consumption and service performance. More specific, the index correlates the calculated energy consumption with the amount of transported material, the consumed time for the transportation of a material unit and the required transportation distance along with any possible change in height level. The proposed index can be used as a generic tool for assisting the design or modernization of energy efficient belt conveyors that should meet high levels of service performance. It also offers the capability to examine the impact that several design parameters exert to the overall efficiency of the conveying machine, by observing their effects on index values.

Host city and venue - Vienna

Vienna (Wien) is the federal capital and largest city of Austria, and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primate city, with a population of about 1.9 million (2.6 million within the metropolitan area, nearly one third of Austria's population), and its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 7th-largest city by population within city limits in the European Union.  Read more...
