Design of hoisting mechanism of overhead cranes based on DIN 15018 and EN 13001

Abstract: In this study a comparison of hoisting mechanism was made with respect to DIN 15018 and EN 13001 standard design approach. Analytical calculation of wire rope, drum and sheaves diameters was carried out, based on both approaches and analysis of the obtained results has been made. Using EN 13001 approach for selected overhead crane enables the selection of thinner wire rope despite larger traction force on the rope. Diameters of the drum and sheaves are also smaller due to the smaller rope diameter.
